  • Katy will deliver an inspirational celebration of art and creativity inviting pupils to journey through history and across the globe to discover the stories of women who changed the world with their incredible art. She will highlight some of the incredible female artists throughout history featured in the book, and speak to why representation is so important.
  • Katy will help pupils to become art detectives, helping them to find the clues, details and messages hidden within famous artworks which tell us so much about their subjects and the times they lived in!
  • She will also speak to how art and creativity can be used to help people express themselves, and highlight some of the art tasks and activities that are featured in the book, helping to provide inspiration for children to bring art into their everyday at home, in the classroom, in museums and galleries, and beyond.

About the author 

Katy Hessel is an art historian and the author of The Story of Art without Men, the international bestseller and Waterstones Book of the Year 2022, and How To Live An Artful Life: 366 Inspirations from Artists on how to Bring Creativity to Your Everyday. She runs @thegreatwomenartists on Instagram, hosts The Great Women Artists Podcast, interviewing artists such as Tracey Emin and Marina Abramović, and is a columnist for the Guardian. Hessel is a Visiting Fellow at Cambridge University and a Trustee of Charleston. In 2024, she launched Museums Without Men, an audio series highlighting works by women artists in museum collections worldwide, such as The Met and Tate Britain.
