About the event:

Join award-winning comedian, author and illustrator Olaf Falafel for a fun, interactive workshop inspired by his hysterical graphic novel series The Far-Out Five.

  • Olaf will be telling jokes, sharing tips on creating funny comics and guiding children through drawing some of his wonderfully weird characters.
  • Warning: this event will contain art, farts and bum-faced woodlice!
  • Pupils will also get the chance to ask Olaf their own questions!

Perfect for kids who are into:

  • Comedy
  • Adventures
  • Graphic Novels
  • Art and drawing

About the book:

A madcap team of adventurers, lost far from home without the magical wand that could change them back into a normal group of kids and one grumpy amateur magician…

Spewnicorn, a punk unicorn who vomits rainbows
Wally, a pompous and cowardly koala
Tubbs, a walking bathtub
Bloof, a blue-footed booby and
Glossy Jeff, a really chilled-out seal

Together they must sail the oceans and face bizarre creatures, weird islands and mysterious tasks on their quest to find Wally’s missing wand and get back home.
Now they face an island with a lot of Portal Loos – mobile toilets that are gateways to different interconnected dimensions – obviously! With a rampaging evil impala on the loose, they must hop from world to world with only the navigational whelks to help them find the way our of this multi-dimensional whirlwind. Will they ever escape? Will Wally ever manage to have a wee?

About the author:

Olaf Falafel is an author, illustrator and a stand-up comedian (which is pretty similar to a stand-up chameleon except he doesn’t change colour to blend in with the background). He’s the winner of The Funniest Joke of the Edinburgh Fringe and has created and performed several stupidly named comedy shows including Olaf Falafel and the Cheese Of Truth. As well as trying to make people laugh on stage, Olaf draws a lot and tries to come up with funny ideas for kids books. He also has an Art Club on YouTube full of real drawing tips and facts about famous artists. In 2019 Olaf visited 100 schools in 100 days – and then put his feet up and had a cup of tea.
