Robin Stevens is one of the most beloved children’s book writers in the UK and has sold over 1.6 million copies of her books.
Published in 2014, Murder Most Unladylike is credited with sparking the middle-grade mystery trend. It was the biggest middle-grade debut of 2014, winning the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize (Young Fiction category) and has garnered a loyal fan base and huge critical acclaim. Featuring her beloved detectives, Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong, the series spans 11 titles including the #1 children’s bestsellers Top Marks for Murder and Death Sets Sail.
In 2022, Robin released the first book in her thrilling second series, The Ministry of Unladylike Activity, starring a new generation of the Detective Society. Set in WWII, the series follows characters Nuala, May and Eric as they work to crack codes and solve mysteries alongside some of the best-loved characters from the Murder Most Unladylike series. Other books in the series include The Body in the Blitz, A Stocking Full of Spies and The Most Unladylike Puzzle Book.
About the author
Robin Stevens was born in California and grew up in an Oxford college, across the road from the house where Alice in Wonderland lived. She has been making up stories all her life.
When she was twelve, her father handed her a copy of The Murder of Roger Ackroyd and she realised that she wanted to be either Hercule Poirot or Agatha Christie when she grew up. She spent her teenage years at Cheltenham Ladies’ College, reading a lot of murder mysteries and hoping that she’d get the chance to do some detecting herself (she didn’t). She went to university, where she studied crime fiction, and then she worked at a children’s publisher.
Robin is now a full-time author and the creator of the internationally award-winning and bestselling Murder Most Unladylike series, starring Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong, and the Ministry of Unladylike Activity. She still hopes she might get the chance to do some detecting of her own one day. She lives in England.

The Story-Makers Show was known as Puffin Virtually Live up until March 2019. The content and ambition of the show remains the same: to give every pupil the opportunity to engage with authors and illustrators in their own classroom using the power of the internet.
We’ve re-named Puffin Virtually Live so that it’s easier for new teachers to discover it as part of Puffin Schools and to acknowledge that the show now premieres on show day, rather than being streamed live.
Your account for Puffin Virtually Live has been deactivated as it is no longer a feature of the Puffin Schools website.
If you were registered for the newsletter, you will now receive the Puffin Schools newsletter, which is filled with all the latest information about accompanying resources and upcoming shows.
