KS1/KS2 RESOURCE PACK – EMPATHY DAY – Clean Up!

Celebrate Emapthy Day on Thurday 10 June.  Inspire chlidren to walk in other people’s shoes and develop empathy through the power of stories.  You can find out more about the amazing work that Empathy Lab does all year round on their website. 

This pack includes fun and educational activities centred on Clean Up! by Nathan Bryon and Dapo Adeola to help children develop empathy for animals and the natural world with Rocket!

What’s the story?

Join lovable, passionate Rocket as she sets off on a mission to save a Caribbean island from plastic pollution!
When Rocket goes for a holiday to visit her grandparents, she’s shocked by the pollution that is spoiling their island home and putting the local sea life at risk. Can she think of a way to save the day?

This resource pack includes:

Lesson 1: WHAT IS EMPATHY?
With tasks to help children create an ‘Empathy Word Board’ and identify examples of empathy in the story and the real world.

Lesson 2: HAVING EMPATHY FOR ANIMALS
With tasks to learn about different sea creatures; step into a creature’s shoes and write a postcard from their perspective.

Lesson 3: CREATING AN EMPATHY RESOLUTION
With tasks to complete an Empathy Checklist of actions and Empathy Bingo and create an Empathy Resolution.

This pack will support learning in PSHE, English and Science.
