KS2 VIDEO: Self-Empowerment with Matilda (2 mins)

Amazing Arabella shares her guide to self-empowerment inspired by Roald Dahl’s Matilda. Use this video in PSHE to spark a conversation about what it means to be empowered. Can you think of any other people or book characters who’ve stood up for their beliefs?

1.Make time for books – and new ideas

Matilda loves books because they transported her to new worlds and introduced her to new people who lived excited lives. Which books have you read that have helped you understand the world from another person’s perspective?

2. Always make time for cake

Just make sure it doesn’t belong to the Trunchbull! Can you remember what happened to Bruce Bogtrotter?

3. Stand by your friends

All Matilda wants is friends like the characters in her book and when she goes to school she finds them! What do you think makes a good friend?

4. Believe in yourself – if Matilda can do it then so can you!

By believing in herself Matilda changes the story and that’s an important lesson for us all! What do you think Matilda would be doing if Roald Dahl wrote another book? Maybe she’d be an author, an activist or even a vlogger? What do you think?
