KS1/2 RESOURCE PACK: The Snowman – Cross-Curricular

What’s the story?

Beloved children’s author Michael Morpurgo has re-imagined Raymond Briggs’ classic The Snowman for a new generation of readers. One December morning, James is thrilled to wake up to see snow falling. He spends the whole day making his perfect snowman; he has coal eyes, an old green hat and scarf and a tangerine nose . . .  just like the snowman from his favourite story. That night, something magical happens- the Snowman comes to life! He and James take to the skies on a magical adventure where they meet someone very special.

This resource pack includes:

You’ll get four, hour-long lessons that can take place during classes, during circle time, P4C sessions, or as extra-curricular activities. They aim to improve reading comprehension and inference, but also to provide cross-curricular objectives in Literacy, PSHE and Science – from the symbolism of the snowman and the importance of friendship in the story, to the changing states of matter in hot or cold temperatures. This pack is filled with Robin Shaw’s magical illustrations of the Snowman’s adventure.

It can be  used with all children at KS1, recommended ages 5–9 and also covers early Key Stage 2. Many of the activities in this Resource Pack can also be used at EYFS, although it is advisable that the original picture book is used as the source text with this age group.
