KS2 VIDEO: Write an alphabet poem with Rashmi Sirdeshpande (11mins)

There’s no ordinary ABCs in sight with Rashmi Sirdeshpande – prepare yourself for AMAZING ALPHABETS! In this video, Rashmi shares her poem A is for Amazing and then challenges children to write their own alphabet poem. It could be about themselves, or amazing people or their hobbies and interests. There are no rules to poetry and their alphabet can be about anything!

Use this video as an introduction to poetry, to develop creative writing and encourage creativity. Children will need a pen and paper to join in. Rashmi’s poem features positive themes of acceptance, kindness, showing gratitude and wonder at the world, and would work well to support PSHE in the classroom. Children can listen to the poem and will then be inspired to write their own, with tips from Rashmi to help them.

These videos were streamed as part of the Puffin Festival of Big Dreams, an online event which celebrated the power of children’s imaginations (and Puffin’s 80th birthday) during lockdown 2020.
