In this video, author and illustrator of Little Leaders, Vashti Harrison shares her inspiration for creating her brilliant books where readers will find heroes, role models and everyday people who did extraordinary things.
Children will find out about Black history and the people who inspire the Little Leaders Biographies including Rosa Parks, Oprah Winfrey and Dr Mae Jemison, the first female African American astronaut. Vashti encourages children them to dream big and believe anything is possible, just like all those who feature in her books and invites children to think about who inspires them.
Use this video to support PSHE and History lessons as well as general writing inspiration in particular using real people to create characters.

The Story-Makers Show was known as Puffin Virtually Live up until March 2019. The content and ambition of the show remains the same: to give every pupil the opportunity to engage with authors and illustrators in their own classroom using the power of the internet.
We’ve re-named Puffin Virtually Live so that it’s easier for new teachers to discover it as part of Puffin Schools and to acknowledge that the show now premieres on show day, rather than being streamed live.
